Getting Your API Key

virentiq.ai uses an AI called Claude, made by a company called Anthropic, to write posts in your voice. To make that work you need an API key.

Think of it as a password that lets virentiq.ai use the AI on your behalf. Creating one is free. This guide names every page and every button you will need.

  1. Open the Anthropic website

Open your browser. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all work. In the address bar at the top, type this exactly:

    platform.claude.comOpen in a new tab

The page that loads is Anthropic's developer platform. Look for a Sign up link, usually at the top right.

If you already have an Anthropic account, skip to step 4. Just sign in and go to the API Keys section.
  2. Create your free Anthropic account

Click Sign up. Anthropic asks for an email address and a password, then a confirmation button labelled Create account or Continue.

If you would rather not create another password, there is also a Continue with Google option on the same form.

This is Anthropic's own website and their own form. virentiq.ai is not involved in this step and never receives your Anthropic password.

  3. Verify your email address

Anthropic sends you an email. Open your inbox and look for a message from Anthropic with a subject line about verifying your email address.

Open it and click the verification button inside. That confirms you own the address and takes a few seconds.

No email after a few minutes? Check your Spam or Junk folder. If it is not there, go back to the Anthropic website and use the option to resend the verification email.
  4. Find the API Keys section

Once your email is verified, sign in to the Anthropic Console at console.anthropic.com.

Look at the menu on the left side of the screen and click API Keys. Depending on your account it may sit under a Settings heading.

  5. Create a new key

On the API Keys page, click the button labelled Create Key. Some accounts show it as New API Key.

A small dialog asks you to name the key. Type virentiq. The name is only for your own records, so you can tell later what the key is used for.

  6. Copy the key before you close the dialog

A long string of letters and numbers appears. That is your API key. It starts with sk-ant- and looks like this:

    sk-ant-api03-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Click the Copy button next to it. The key goes to your clipboard, ready to paste.

This is the only time you will see this key

Anthropic does not store the key and cannot show it to you again. Do not close the dialog until you have pasted it into virentiq.ai in the next step. If you lose it, the fix is to delete that key and create a new one, which is quick but avoidable.
  7. Paste the key into virentiq.ai

Go back to virentiq.ai. In the left sidebar click Settings, then find the section headed Claude API Key.

Click into the box and paste the key. That is Ctrl plus V on Windows, or Cmd plus V on a Mac. Then click Save.

Once saved, the Settings page confirms the key has been stored. virentiq.ai is now connected to Claude and can write posts in your voice.
